This film is the remarkable true story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home who was taken in by a wealthy white family who helped him fulfill his potential as a person and as an athlete. He worked hard on the field and in the classroom and became an All-American in college and was picked in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, changing his life and the lives of the loving family who were there to watch him succeed.  Rated PG-13, 128 minutes.

Meet the Author and Book Signing: Colonel William (Bill) R. Saunders

John’s Island Regional Library
Thursday, February 9 from 6 – 7 p.m.

Colonel William R. Saunders, retired USAF pilot and John’s Island native (Mt. Zion Elementary, Haut Gap Middle School and St. John’s High School Alumnus), will share the tools needed to get up and get in control of your life.  He is a 1977 Tuskegee University Mechanical Engineering, Air Force ROTC distinguished graduate and motivational speaker whose book, Are You Stuck in Traffic? A Step-by-Step Guide to a Better Life!, will provoke thought and make you hungry to reach your personal goals.  The book is a metaphor for the traffic jams of life.  Copies of the book and related items (audiobook CDs, pamphlets, t-shirts, etc.) will be available for sale and signing by the author after the program.

Need Tax Forms or Tax Help?

AARP Free Income Tax Preparation
Saturdays, February 4 through April 14 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Free income tax preparation and electronic filing will be offered by AARP volunteers through April 14 at the John’s Island Regional Branch.  A current picture ID and Social Security card are required, along with the Social Security cards of any dependents. First come, first served with the last person accepted at 1 p.m.  Assistance in Spanish will be available.
